Our Art
Taekwondo is a martial art that originated in Korea almost 2,000 years ago. Often used for self-defense, taekwondo literally means ”the way of the foot and fist.” For a long time no one outside of Korea practiced taekwondo. In 1973, the World Taekwondo Federation was formed and the art of taekwondo received worldwide recognition, making the sport popular around the world.
LMA is a member of the
World Taekwondo Federation (WTF), an international organization that created rules for Olympic and world championship taekwondo sparring competitions. Olympic style sparring classes are available at LMA but not required.
Our standard curriculum is based on traditional taekwondo and includes kicking, striking, and blocking; poomses (forms); full cardio conditioning and an emphasis on the the five tenets of taekwondo: Perseverance, Indomitable Spirit, Courtesy, Self-Control, and Integrity.
